Purina Opens Its Doors, At Long Last
Believe it or not, longtime pet food giant Purina has always been “shy” about inviting visitors to its headquarters, according to company executives. But recently, they decided it was time to open their doors to the media so that we could learn what the company is all about. So, earlier this month, I flew to St. Louis for Purina’s Behind the Bowl Symposium as one of its invited guests.
Throughout the two-day event, we learned about the company’s commitment to pets and people, its rigorous safety and quality standards, its reliance on scientific research, what inspires Purina product introductions and more.
In addition to attending panel discussions with Purina executives and other members of the pet industry, we toured the company’s Pilot Plant, which is designed for research and development of products, saw its Retail Innovation Center and got to play at being Purina employees by performing our own sensory checks on samples of dry and wet Purina food. I even came away with my very own illustrated pet fecal chart. (As one attendee put it: “That little Tootsie Roll that you pick up is a big deal.”)
