Behind the Scenes: Angels' Eyes
With a mission to clear tear stains from pets’ eyes, Angels’ Eyes prides itself on its originality, quality and transparency.
In 2002, Lynda Winkowski began to research the problem of tear staining for dogs and cats.
“I realized that all the products [available] were topical, but the reasons behind the tear staining were coming from the inside,” said Winkowski, president of Angels’ Eyes. “I knew of several ingredients to help eliminate the tear staining by working from the inside out and created formulas to make it palatable, and Angels’ Eyes began.”
With a couple of 4-foot tables, two Cuisinarts and stainless bowls, Winkowski and her husband started blending the ingredients. Next they worked on their presentation and packaging, and the couple took their products to market starting with the H.H. Backer Show in 2005. Angels’ Eyes now resides in a 10,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Sunrise, Fla.

PPN: Describe Angels’ Eyes product lines.
Lynda Winkowski: Our best-sellers of course are all our Angels’ Eyes tear stain remedies, which include our Angels’ Eyes Natural tear stain powder and chews and our Angels’ Eyes Plus remedies, now available in both chicken and beef [formulas] and new sizes, and our new Gentle Tear Stain Wipes. We also have Heavenly Coat Chews for skin and coat, assorted shampoos that are paraben free, ear cleaners, and new Nose Glow and Soft Paw balms to help keep dogs protected from both the warm and cooler climates.
All Angels’ Eyes products are proudly made in the USA. Our products are designed to help keep dogs and cats’ coats looking their very best.
All of our tear stain remedies are specifically developed to help eliminate tear stains from the inside out, and we never add any corn, wheat, soy or artificial food colorings, which can add to tear staining. Our tear stain remedies are recommended for both shedding and nonshedding breeds.
PPN: What kinds of success stories and feedback do you hear from customers?
LW: We have been overwhelmed by the success stories from our customers. Most of our customers understand that the tear stains did not appear overnight and that it can take anywhere from six to 14 weeks to start seeing results.
PPN: What sets Angels’ Eyes’ products apart from its competitors?
LW: As the innovators of tear stain remedies that work from the inside out, our products have often been imitated but never duplicated. We stand behind all our products, and we are always ready to help both the retailer and the consumer.
There are many products on the market today—some topical and some that say they work from the inside out—that do not even list a single ingredient. We always list all ingredients [so] the consumer knows what is in our products.

PPN: What are some of the most frequently asked questions of retailers’ customers, and what best-practice advice do you give retailers on how to educate customers on the Angels’ Eyes story?
LW: Retailers who want to educate themselves should take the time to understand how the products work and educate their staff. They should also understand and explain to the consumer that the tear stains did not appear overnight and that it can take up to three to four months to see good results. Our products are safe for long-term use.
Of course, as always, pet owners should consult with their veterinarians before starting their dog on a supplement regimen.
We are always available to help retailers and consumers.

PPN: Angels’ Eyes products carry the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) seal. Why is that an important distinction, and what protocols must the company follow in order to adhere to the organization’s standards?
LW: The NASC seal is important to consumers because it gives them confidence in the company. You can trust [our] company, because we’ve been independently audited by the NASC. It also shows that our company is contributing to a cause greater than its own self-interest, which makes an impact on the industry, but more important, on the animals themselves. And that’s where our hearts are; otherwise, we wouldn’t be in the industry.
As an NASC member we must agree to adhere to NASC’s quality standards, which include submitting to an independent audit to ensure conformance with quality system requirements. NASC members are required to demonstrate compliance before they are granted permission to display the seal on their products, websites, product literature and advertisements.
The requirements are tough, but the bottom line is it is a rigorous independent audit of our facilities from beginning to end, which helps show we are committed and meet the highest standards of quality in the industry.
PPN: What does the future hold for Angels’ Eyes?
LW: The future is looking excellent for us here at Angels’ Eyes. We have a few new products still in the development stage that hopefully will be ready soon.
