Standout Pet Collar Styles

To stand out in the pet collar category, manufacturers consider a range of factors when it comes to collars—with fashion and safety ranking as high priorities.

In the collar arena, design and style consistently rank high in customer priority. FrendshipCollar’s new Heritage collar and bracelet set delivers on both fronts. The masculine and refined design is crafted in chestnut brown vegan leather especially for man and his best friend. It comes in eight sizes to fit every dog and with an adjustable bracelet for the pet owner. The collar features a gold-plated D-ring as a stylish accent for leash or charm attachments.

Next to style, dog and cat owners want safety and comfort in their pets’ collars and harnesses.

“Consumers are looking for new and fashionable products that also are safe,” said Diane Thomas, marketing manager for Coastal Pet Products Inc. in Alliance, Ohio. “Through recent consumer research, we determined that consumers want reflective properties built in, such as reflective stitching/patterns, and we responded with updates to the Pro and Lazer Brite lines.”

Coastal’s reflective Pro collars come in bright, sporty colors, and the company’s Lazer Brite collars are designed to maximize reflectivity and showcase the vibrant nylon colors. The line features the same reflective material as safety professionals and is visible up to 600 feet, the company reported.

Other offerings with a focus on safety and comfort include Pelcor’s pet accessories and GoGo Martingale Collars from Artvark Pet Products.

Pelcor’s products are crafted in Europe using the highest-quality cork skin harvested from the sustainable cork oak forests of southern Portugal. Designed for dogs and cats, the collars are made from smooth, pliable fabric that is durable, lightweight, waterproof, buoyant, hypoallergenic, stain-resistant and cleans with just soap and water, the manufacturer stated.

Artvark described its GoGo Martingale Collars as excellent for training and designed for gentle control. Each collar is adjustable and made from top-quality materials that resist fading and fraying, and they come in six sizes and seven vibrant colors: purple, orange, blue, hunter green, pink, red and black.

As seen in other categories, the popularity of USA- and locally-made products has reached dog and cat collars, as well. For example, Boots & Arrow’s pet accessories line contains one-of-a-kind leather accessories made from the leather of reclaimed cowboy boots, and everything is completely hand sourced, hand assembled and made locally in Texas. Features include hand stitching, solid brass hardware, laser etching and hand-painted details, and proceeds from every purchase go toward helping injured rescue animals find forever homes, the company stated.

Cat owners also look for products that promote security, with nighttime safety and reflectivity gaining in popularity, said Angela Ramsay, Coastal’s assistant merchandising manager.

The company’s newest cat collars include Glow in the Dark and Magnetic breakaway collars. Glow in the Dark collars charge during the day, even indoors, to glow all night and feature a pivoting breakaway buckle. The Magnetic buckle breakaway collars self-align and provide a consistent breakaway point for maximum safety, Thomas said.
