Andis Opens Finalist Voting Period for Hearts & Paws Award

Published:

Voting on the three finalists for Andis Co.’s 2019 Hearts & Paws Award has begun. The award acknowledges grooming professionals “who show animals the best side of humanity” through their volunteer work with local shelters, according to company officials.

Voting takes place on Facebook here. Facebook users can vote once per day until Aug. 23. Andis will donate $2,000 to the winner’s local shelter or pet organization of their choice. The Hearts & Paws award recipient will also receive an Andis grooming kit, valued at $1,200.

“We are excited to recognize groomers who demonstrate a love of animals as well as a passion for the communities in which they live,” said Nicole Kallish, manager of education-animal for Andis, which is headquartered in Sturtevant, Wis. “Andis cares deeply for the animals and communities our groomers operate in each and every day, and we want to show our appreciation for the commitment we see from grooming professionals around the country.”

Hearts & Paws 2019 finalists include As the Tail Wags staff in Oviedo, Fla., Cherie Kim, who volunteers with the Foster Pet Outreach in Peoria, Ill., and Melody Anne, owner and groomer at Stacked and Styled in Collinsville, Ill.

As the Tail Wags staff—Kristie Perry Kingsland, Tonya Williamson and Ashley Roach—were nominated for their dedication to the pets in their community. In the 10 years they have been serving the Oviedo Community, they have worked with various rescues. They also use their passion for grooming to help citizens in their community by hosting dog washes to help with cancer treatments for community members, and they were part of an effort to raise money for a new police dog, said Andis officials. They also organized a dog wash with grooming salons across the country where 37 salons raised over $10,000 for victims of The Pulse night club shootings in Orlando.

“This is a grooming salon not only dedicated to pets but their community and the grooming industry,” said their nominator.

If they win, they’d like to give back to The Pixel Fund in Florida. The Pixel Fund is a division of Pixel’s Posse and is headquartered in Gorham, Maine.

Kim was nominated because of her “kind and gentle grooming, and for her big heart.” In addition to giving back to animals in the community, Kim helps others grow to be a better groomer and is a fantastic mentor and resource, according to her nominator.

If Kim wins the Andis Hearts & Paws Award, she wants to support Foster Pet Outreach.

Anne has groomed several dogs in extremely critical coat condition and uses her grooming talents to help them on the road to recovery, according to company officials. She volunteers not only her time and talents but also her home for the animal rescue organization Partners 4 Pets in Troy, Ill.

If she wins, she’d like to give back to Partners 4 Pets.
