Animal Supply Company and Postmates Team Up to Fulfill Same-Day Delivery to Retail Customers
National pet product distributor Animal Supply Company is teaming up with Postmates—a courier network and logistics company—to afford its independent pet specialty retailers the opportunity to provide affordable on-demand, same-day home delivery to their customers.
Animal Supply Company officials describe the service as “a turnkey solution” that simplifies a process that once seemed out of reach, allowing its retail partners to compete against large e-commerce retailers.
The service will roll out in a phased market approach, starting with a handful of retailers in California and Texas, according to the company, before rolling out over the next few months.
“We wanted to bring forth a solution to help our retail partners, and ultimately provide pet parents a way to buy local with the convenience they need in their lives,” said Angela Spears, vice president of digital strategy and marketing for Animal Supply Company, which is headquartered in Irving, Texas. “We know the best place for pet parents to shop is in the local independent pet store, where the staff has the knowledge and relationship to bring the best to pets.”
Customers’ orders will be processed through the Postmates mobile application. “The customer orders and pays on the Postmates app,” Spears said. “A Postmates courier receives the order and goes to the retailers. The Postmates courier then shops for the customer—just like any other customer would do—and then delivers the order to the pet parent.”
Postmates, which is headquartered in San Francisco, provides delivery for thousands of business, including including Apple, Starbucks and Walgreens, in more than 270 cities across the country, and runs one of the largest online, on-demand marketplaces in the country, Spears added.
“We found a partner in Postmates that understands that pets are family too, and we are committed to bringing innovation to this industry,” she said.
