Apartment List Reveals Pet Friendliest Cities
Apartment List recently looked into which cities are the most pet friendly, considering everything from nearby parks to hiking routes to pet-friendly apartments and restaurants. Spring, Texas, took top honors with 89.3 percent of renters saying that they are satisfied with the pet friendliness of their city.
The abundance of dog parks, canyons and waterfalls in Colorado helped bring Fort Collins into second place, according to Angelina Bader, author of the city ranking roundup. Boulder scored No. 7.
Top cities along with satisfaction rating include:
- Spring, Texas—89.3 percent
- Fort Collins, Colo.—86.7 percent
- Alexandria, Va.—86.2 percent
- Beaverton, Ore.—85.4 percent
- Austin, Texas—84.9 percent
- Denton, Texas—84.6 percent
- Boulder, Colo.—84.4 percent
- Seattle—81.9 percent
- Charlottesville, Va.—80.8 percent
- Boise, Idaho—80.5 percent
Other notables include Minneapolis (No. 38), Washington D.C. (No. 53) and San Jose, Calif. (No. 124). The apartments in Minneapolis are becoming more pet friendly, even offering amenities such as a pet washing station, Bader said. Indoor grass patches in Washington D.C. and a rooftop dog park in San Jose were eye-catching, she added.
“There is no doubt that these cool amenities will definitely make a pet parent’s life simpler,” Bader said. “This is why we love seeing apartment complexes that offer innovative amenities for pet owners.”
Data was based on results from the Apartment List annual renter survey. Renters were asked, “How satisfied are you with your current city in each of these categories? — Pet friendliness.” The minimum sample size for each city was 25.
