Bob Martin Acquires Care Business From Nestlé Purina in Europe
Bob Martin, an international brand name in pet care and wellness, has reached an agreement with Nestlé Purina to buy its Nestlé Purina PetCare business, which manufactures and sells a range of small animal pet food (for birds, rodents, aquatic and small mammals) and pet accessories. The sale was completed on Jan. 1, 2016.
The company will acquire manufacturing, distribution and salesforce capabilities in France, Spain and Italy, expanding the business’s existing footprint in Europe.
“With over 85 years’ experience, the Purina PetCare business offers significant expertise in pet wellbeing, which complements Bob Martin’s own heritage in companion animal healthcare,” said Savi Madan, CEO of Bob Martin. “The acquisition provides us with the unique capability to manufacture and supply our customers with everything pets need, from medicines and feed, to grooming and accessories.
“This is an exciting time for innovation at Bob Martin. We will be able to respond to customer needs with a broader range of branded, bespoke and private label products, across all pet categories, as well as granting access to every major multiple retailer in Europe. We also will be looking for opportunities to better align our business’ ambitions and targets with those of our major customers to ensure customized solutions for the entire pet care category.
“Both Bob Martin and Nestlé are cooperating closely to make the transfer seamless for employees, suppliers and partners. We are committed to developing the Purina PetCare business further, and we remain focused on delivering a strong commercial offer across all the pet care categories in which we operate in 2016.”
Bob Martin was founded in 1892 in Southport, England, where Robert (Bob) Martin manufactured vitamin and mineral powders after he recognized the need to supplement dogs’ diets. Today, the company is still owned and managed by the Martin family from its headquarters in the South West of England and manufactures a wide range of pet products under the Bob Martin brand and private label, which are available through supermarkets and specialist pet stores worldwide.
