In recognition of National Train Your Dog Month, which takes place every January, Vital Essentials has launched its “Train Your Dog” contest. The contest is to help promote the importance of socialization and training for happier, healthier dogs, officials said.
“Train Your Dog” will take place on Instagram from now through Jan. 27. Pet owners can enter the contest by teaching their dog a new trick or help them perfect one they already know, capturing a photo or video of their dog showing off their trick and posting the photo or video on Instagram with #TricksforVETreats.
All entries will be featured in Vital Essentials Instagram highlights, officials said. Winners will be selected on Jan. 31, and will receive a prize pack that includes five Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Family Size Treats, an $80 value, according to officials.
“Our high value treats are ideally suited for training puppies, teaching new tricks or reinforcing positive behaviors,” said Melissa Olson, vice president of marketing and sales for the Green Bay, Wis.-based company. “Because our treats are made from single protein and freeze-dried, their nutritional value is much higher than other treats that are highly processed. Dogs eagerly follow commands to get their Vital Essentials reward.”
National Train Your Dog Month, sponsored by The Association of Professional Dog Trainers, was established in 2010 to promote the importance and benefits of training dogs.
“Too many dogs are turned into animal shelters each year for behavior and training issues that could be easily solved with proper socialization and positive training,” officials said. “Most importantly, training your dog is not just beneficial, it’s fun.”
