February Is National Pet Dental Health Month

Capitalize on National Pet Dental Health Month by promoting dental health care products to your customers.

Published:

February is just around the corner, and with it comes National Pet Dental Health Month. As this is an important part of the pet industry, capitalize on this annual event by promoting dental health care products to your customers. It is a win-win because you not only are boosting your sales, but you are helping pets practice good oral care.

It’s also a great month to partner with local veterinarians. Develop a partnership around this annual event, and it just might lead to a year-round relationship with you supporting each other’s businesses.

Most veterinarians offer discounts to their clients who schedule dental cleanings during the month of February. Help them take that to another level by bringing them discount coupons to give their patients throughout National Pet Dental Health Month good for purchasing dental products from your store. After spending a fair amount of money on a dental cleaning for their loved ones, pet owners typically are focused on ways to maintain the results and prevent this expense in the future.

What a perfect time to get them into your store to become loyal purchasers of oral care products. And veterinarians love partnering, as it makes them look like a hero, too, by offering a discount and an additional resource to patients.

Dental care in your store can go the traditional route of offering toothbrushes and pet-friendly toothpaste. But make sure to include holistic alternatives in your mix. I personally have had great success with PetzLife, both with my dogs and with my friends’, family’s and customers’ dogs.

If you shoot me an email, I am happy to share some before and after photos of my dog’s mouth. The results were outstanding in a very short period of time. Those I sold PetzLife product to experienced similar results in short periods of time, so I think it is good to quickly revisit this great resource as the company continues to expand its product offerings.

PetzLife’s staple dental product is its 4-oz. bottle of peppermint- or salmon-flavored gel or spray. And yes, the salmon is a favorite of cats. One quick swipe across their lips, and you are done.

This year, PetzLife added some new items to its assortment. A 1-oz., pocket-size gel spray is a great way to freshen a pet’s breath or address oral care when on the run or traveling. Set up the company’s point-of-sale display at the register for impulse buys at checkout. At $9.99, this smaller bottle is a great way for customers to test the waters before plunging in and purchasing the larger 4-oz. bottle for $24.99. Once they see the amazing results, they will be back for more.

PetzLife’s Complete Treats chews are another new offering. The veterinarian-formulated, 100 percent natural chews are made of the same active ingredients used in the Oral Care Spray and Gel. Not only are they functional, they are tasty. A dog devouring this delicious chew will have no clue that his yummy treat actually is doing some good on his teeth. My dogs love them. Nutrient rich and made of natural ingredients, Complete Treats are wheat free, corn free and soy free, with no artificial flavors or colors.

Many pets might want a total makeover to correspond with their glistening teeth, so off to the groomer they will go. Andis, one of the leading manufacturers of grooming tools for pets and their humans since 1922, just released a new product to the world of groomers.

For years, professional groomers have used a manual brush to dislodge fur buildup from their clippers and trimmers, but that wasn’t enough to remove stubborn fur particles and grime from tight spaces and moving parts. Professional groomers can now achieve a new level of clean with Dry Care High Pressure Air Cleaner, which will blast the debris from their tools. The convenient 10-oz. pressurized can features an easy-to-use trigger nozzle with a concentrator straw for accessing hard-to-reach spaces. The suggested retail price is $14.

Stay tuned for more new grooming and spa in my upcoming blogs.

And with Global Pet Expo just around the corner, please reach out to me if you will be featuring a new product at the show.  I can mention it in our upcoming pre-expo blog so visitors will know to stop by the booth. I also have a few available time slots to meet with retailers or manufacturers before or during the show. Contact me at julie@dogandfriends.com.
