Last night’s winner of the 140th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York is C.J., a 3-year-old male German shorthaired pointer, from the Sporting group. Seven finalists each are chosen from specific groups: Working, Hound, Terrier, Non-Sporting, Sporting, Toy and Herding.
With handler Valerie Nunes-Atkinson at his side, C.J. beat out six other contenders for best in show: Rumor, a German shepherd; Lucy, a borzoi; Annabelle, a bulldog; Bogey, a Samoyed; Panda, a shih tzu; and Charlie, a Skye terrier.
One of the crowd’s favorites was a Leonberger, who kept mouthing at his handler’s pocket for a treat.
Last year’s Best in Show award went to Miss P, a beagle.
