Groom Expo West 2016 Attracts More Than 3,800 Groomers

Groom Expo West, the world’s second largest grooming show (behind its sister show, Groom Expo in Hershey, Pa.), attracted 3,815 groomers and more than 100 companies, comprising almost 150 booths at the Feb. 4-7 show at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, Calif. The expo is one of 11 shows produced by Barkleigh Productions.
“From the start, this show was sort of an industry secret. It seemed like few people outside of the Southwest realized the size and scope of it,” said Todd Shelly, president of Mechanicsburg, Pa.-based Barkleigh Productions. “The last few years it seems like the expo has gained a lot of attention. That is great news for the Southern California and Southwest groomers in that it now attracts more top industry speakers and a larger variety of vendors.”
The show featured an all-star speaker lineup, a huge selection of products from grooming industry vendors and GroomTeam USA sanctioned contests, according to show organizers. In addition, the Groomer to Groomer Rescue Roundup competition showcased adoptable dogs, and the Bass Brush Creative Grooming Contests also were featured.
Sandra Hartness, with her steampunk design, was the People’s Choice winner of the Bass Brush Creative Styling contest.
Nature’s Specialties Best in Show winner was Teruko Miller; Purina Pro Plan Best All Around winner was Ann Martin. Aeli Choen was the winner of the Groomer to Groomer-sponsored Rescue Round-Up winner was; Sandra Hartness was the People’s Choice winner of the Bass Brush Creative Styling contest with her steampunk design; and Angela Kumpe was the Judges’ Choice winner with her Mermaid theme.
Additional sponsors were Utsumi America, Wag’n Tails, Earthbath and Geib.
