KLN Family Brands Commissions Children Book Promoting Bond Between Kids and Pets

Published:

The president of the parent company of a national pet food company was reading to his two young daughters before bed one evening when he realized there was a lack of good children’s books that celebrated the special bond between kids and their furry and loyal companions. So he commissioned “Adventures with Tuffy.”

“It occurred to me that there were many stories either about children or animals. Very few, if any, books spoke to the growing relationship between a child and their 'furry family member,'” said Charlie Nelson, president of KLN Family Brands, the parent company of Tuffy’s Pet Foods in Perham, Minn.

Nelson knew how excited his girls were when he read them stories about dogs. They were especially joyful whenever they saw any dog or puppy. Now old enough for a four-legged friend, the girls are starting their own adventures with Gabby, their new puppy.

“Adventures with Tuffy” is a book about the imagination of a child and the experiences she shares with her four-legged best friend. The book, penned by Perham, Minn. resident Sue Sailer and illustrated by New York Mills, Minn. native Troy Becker, celebrates the special bond between Anna and her dog Tuffy as they embark on magical adventures around the world.

A portion of the proceeds from every book sold will be donated to the Pinky Swear Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps families ease the financial and emotional burdens of pediatric cancer by providing basic needs support to kids with cancer and their families during a very challenging time. It’s part of KLN Family Brands $1 million commitment to the Pinky Swear Foundation.

“Adventures with Tuffy” has a suggested retail price of $11.99-$14.99. It contains coupons for Nutrisource and Pure Vita Pet Food. The book is available at local independent pet food specialty retailers across the country.
