Maddie's Fund President Retires
Rich Avanzino will retire as president of Maddie’s Fund, a Pleasanton, Calif.-based animal welfare charity, later this summer.
“[Avanzino] is an inspiration to the entire animal welfare movement, and we are grateful for his vision at Maddie’s Fund over the past 17 years,” said Workday Inc. co-founder Dave Duffield, who founded Maddie’s Fund with his wife, Cheryl, in 1994.
Maddie’s Fund is named in honor of the Duffields’ beloved miniature schnauzer Maddie; the Duffields have endowed the organization with $300 million and awarded more than $153 million in grants to date to no-kill organizations across the U.S. as well as found homes for more than 45,000 dogs and cats through Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days, which began in 2010.
“The opportunity to make a lifesaving difference every day with Maddie’s Fund has been immeasurable,” said Avanzino.
