New Amazon Feature Aims to Rev Up Seller's Pet Sales

Amazon has found a new way to entice pet owners to purchase products on its site. 

The online retailer recently launched its pet profiles feature, which enables pet owners to add their pets to their profile and offers a variety of benefits. 

Amazon customers can create a pet profile for dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, small animals, fish and horses. The feature prompts customers to enter the pet’s name, breed information and age. Users are also given the option of adding the pet’s photo. Then customers are directed to their pet’s profile, which features a custom list of purchase suggestions, deals and “pet profile exclusive coupons.”    

For a limited time, Amazon Prime members get a one-time 20 percent discount on their next pet food order following first profile creation. Prime members will also be able to unlock exclusive profile-customer-only coupons.

According to a recent study, Amazon is winning the online price war with pet supplies. The report, Price Wars: A Study of Online Price Competitiveness, reveals that Amazon’s prices are typically 11 percent lower than Walmart, Target and Jet.
