P3 Pet Trade Show’s Educational Sessions, Speakers, Aim for Independent Pet Retailer Growth
P3|Progressive Pet Products Trade Show’s inaugural event took place Aug. 24-25 at Navy Pier on Chicago’s waterfront.
One of the show’s highlights, according to attendees, was the Independent Retailer Conference. Complimentary to registered attendees, the pop-up conference, organized by St. Charles, Ill.-based retail consultants Rich Kizer and Georganne Bender, was designed to provide interactive experiences that left attendees better educated and more inspired, according to P3. The lineup included more than 20 educational sessions from retail experts who offered actionable advice on increasing cash flow, optimizing a customer’s shopping journey, motivating and hiring staff, inventory setup and management, marketing to millennials, payment technology, brand building and more.
Sessions were 15 minutes each and were staged in the hall next to vendor booths on the show floor, meaning showgoers could attend a preferred topic, take a rest from the floor, and gain tips and advice for improving their overall business without interrupting their schedules.
Other highlights included keynote speakers Bill Rancic, entrepreneur, best-selling author and winner of season one of NBC’s “The Apprentice,” who shared his strategies to help prepare pet businesses for growth, and Jeff Fromm, author of "Marketing to Millennials," urged pet businesses to forget everything they thought they knew about millennials and their shopping journey, brand preferences and peer-to-peer communications.
