Pet Supplies Plus Hires Senior V.P. of Franchising
Pet Supplies Plus, a pet retail franchise headquartered in Livonia, Mich., hired David Leonardo as the company’s senior vice president of franchising.
Pet Supplies Plus has more than 300 locations in 26 states.
Leonardo has held high-level positions with other franchise businesses, including Wild Wing Café, Arby’s Restaurant Group, Wendy’s and Burger King.
Most recently, he served as COO at La Galere Markets, a startup company that runs and develops self-checkout mini markets in the gourmet segment.
“Coming from a startup environment, I wanted to use my franchising experience at a company with high-growth potential and in which I truly believe in the concept,” Leonardo said.
As one of his first initiatives at Pet Supplies Plus, Leonardo will place an emphasis on introducing qualified multi-unit franchisees from different categories to the opportunities in the pet industry.
Leonardo joins Pet Supplies Plus during an accelerated growth period. In 2015, so far, Pet Supplies Plus has signed 27 franchise agreements for a total of 34 locations, bringing neighborhood pet stores to new markets in Atlanta, Denver, Houston, Jacksonville, Fla., and Nashville, Tenn.
Pet Supplies Plus is currently seeking qualified single and multi-unit owners in Atlanta, Houston, Memphis, Tenn., Minneapolis, Raleigh, N.C., St. Louis and Tampa, Fla.
An initial investment to start a Pet Supplies Plus franchise ranges from about $550,000 to $1 million.
“After working in the restaurant space for over a decade, I saw firsthand the constant labor and food-cost pressures that hurt franchisees’ bottom line,” Leonardo said.
“I believe that Pet Supplies Plus offers a solution to these burdens with a business model posting single-digit labor costs and strong unit-level economics in an anticyclical industry, which has seen more than 20 years of positive growth,” he added.
