PetSmart Offers Free Baths for Dogs in Hurricane-impacted Areas

Published:

With thousands of residents still impacted by Hurricane Florence, PetSmart is offering free dog baths to help pet owners as they return to normalcy.

Now through Saturday, Sept. 22, from noon until close, PetSmart will offer a free basic bath to pets in the impacted communities. Residents are encouraged to call the store ahead of time to book their pet’s bath appointment and mention the free bath offer when booking.

“Pets can get dirty during the chaos of a hurricane, but with everything pet families have to deal with following a storm, they may not be able to tend to their pet’s hygiene right away,” said Joanna Zucker, vice president of services at PetSmart, which has headquarters in Phoenix. “By offering free baths, we hope to make things a little bit easier for pets and pet parents impacted by the storm.”

In order to maintain a safe and comfortable grooming environment, pets must be current on their rabies vaccinations in order to receive their free bath. For more information, pet parents can call their local store for details and availability. Add-on services will be available for purchase.

In addition, PetSmart Charities has committed up to $1 million in grants to support designated responding agencies working on the front lines to help pets and pet families in need in the areas affected by Hurricane Florence.

“With disaster recovery and relief work underway across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, we know there are hundreds of responding agencies on the ground who need pet supplies to feed, house and provide veterinary care to pets,” said David Haworth, DVM, Ph.D., president of PetSmart Charities. “With the support of our generous donors, it’s our hope that this funding from PetSmart Charities will help provide crucial care to pet families and displaced pets following this storm.”

Disaster relief groups can now submit a grant application to PetSmart Charities. The grants are open to national and local designated response agencies serving pets including nonprofit and municipal animal shelters, rescues, food banks, and veterinary clinics. PetSmart Charities will fund up to $1 million in grants, provided that qualified applications for that amount are received.
