Petfood & Animal Nutrition 2.0 Announces 2015 Innovation Awards

Published:

This year’s Petfood & Animal Nutrition 2.0 Innovation Awards saw11 winners honored during a reception on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Chicago Hilton.

Some of the winning brand holders offered innovative formulations or finished product lines, took a distinctive approach to a traditional category or championed a specific cause or platform, such as sustainability, unique formats or highly research-driven ingredients.

The winners included:

Caru Pet Food
The first North American pet food manufacturer to use Tetra Pak technology for a non-liquid animal-nourishment product—hearty stews for pets.

Champion Petfoods
The company is vigilant about in-house manufacturing of biologically appropriate dog and cat foods—including recently introduced freeze-dried offerings—from fresh regional ingredients.

Clear Conscience Pet
The brand owner combines its CleanLabel platform of pure, pronounceable and purposeful ingredients with the reinvention of the pet chew, treat and meal-topper categories.

Darwin’s Natural Pet Products
The company revolutionized the delivery of raw, frozen meals—including a prescription line—to the doorsteps of dog and cat owners across the U.S.

Fromm Family Foods
Family owned and operated, the manufacturer launched the concept of small-batch premium pet foods in 1949, and its legacy of nutritional excellence continues.

Functional Nutriments
Through pet specialty retailers, the company offers proprietary canine nutraceuticals with ingredients such as curcumin and luteolin, which support apoptosis, or natural cell health.

K10 Holdings
From water-soluble supplements to chewables with a dissolvable technology that facilitates absorption, the brand holder delivers cutting-edge nutritional pet products.

Look Who’s Happy
Producing U.S.-sourced meat and poultry jerky treats in its own plant, the manufacturer leads with transparency to help rebuild trust in the category.

Open Farm
With a core value of “Do Some Good," and a third-party audited and certified humane supply chain, the pet food company set a new bar for sustainability efforts.

Solid Gold Pet
Founded in 1974, the holistic pet food company unveiled a bold, hip new brand expression in 2015, ushering its heritage into the modern-day market.

“This year’s honorees run the gamut when it comes to innovative animal nutrition products,” said Karen Butler, editor-in-chief of Petfood & Animal Nutrition 2.0. “It’s exciting to see pioneering companies with 40 to 60 years’ experience reinventing themselves to stay competitive, right alongside newer businesses who are drawing from cutting-edge research and technology to deliver nutrients in novel applications.”

The recognition program was launched in 2014, in conjunction with the inaugural Petfood & Animal Nutrition 2.0 conference, held in Chicago, Sept. 23 to 24. The first five winners were Chomp & Nibble, JustFoodForDogs, Mercola, Petcurean Pet Nutrition and The Honest Kitchen.
