Petland Discounts Files for Bankruptcy
Petland Discounts, a chain of pet stores in the New York tri-state area, filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy in New York Eastern Bankruptcy Court on March 28.
In February, the company filed notices with the Departments of Labor in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut that cited impending layoffs and store closures, following the death of its sole proprietor, founder and CEO Neil Pardon in January. The company's 90 stores have closed.
Pardon opened the first Petland Discounts store in 1965, and at its peak, the company have 118 locations.
