Pets Best Insurance Services in Boise, Idaho, has named veterinarian Dr. Stephanie Hickey as the recent winner of its My Vet’s the Best contest.

“This is our seventh year hosting the nationwide contest that honors and recognizes the exceptional service of veterinarians,” said Dr. Jack Stephens, founder of Pets Best. “Dr. Hickey is well-deserving of this award as she is truly dedicated to her clients and their beloved pets, and is a compassionate advocate for animals in need.”

The 2017 contest brought in over 4,500 votes cast by pet owners through the Pets Best Facebook page. Ranging from Nevada to New York, this year’s contest had many outstanding finalists from across the United States. Hickey, who practices at Admiral Veterinary Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn., won the contest after receiving 1,719 total online votes.

As the winner of the My Vet’s the Best contest, Hickey will receive $1,000 from Pets Best to help and treat animals in need in her community.

“I am grateful that I am able to share this money with several local rescues,” Hickey said. “I appreciate all the fans, friends, rescuers, and family who voted for me and it feels ood to know that so many people support me.”

Hickey is the president of The Knox County Animal Cruelty Alliance, a group that creates local ordinances to strengthen laws regarding animal cruelty. She is also the coordinator for two local rescue groups, Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue and Tri-State Collie Rescue, and fosters rescue dogs until they can find a permanent home.
