Ruffwear Donates to The Conservation Alliance’s Public Lands Defense Fund

Ruffwear has donated $50,000 to The Conservation Alliance’s Public Lands Defense Fund.

“We believe in serving our community and protecting wild places,” said Will Blount, president of the Bend, Ore.-based company. “Many of the moments we cherish most with our dogs take place on our public lands. The Conservation Alliance is doing critical work to safeguard public lands and waterways, and this donation is our contribution to that effort to ensure that future generations of pups and people will be able to experience America's natural treasures.

The Conservation Alliance is an organization of businesses whose collective contributions support grassroots environmental organizations and their efforts to protect wild places where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. Since its inception in 1989, The Conservation Alliance has contributed more than $18 million to help protect more than 50 million acres of wildlands, 2,991 miles of rivers, stop or remove 29 dams, designate five marine reserves and purchase 12 climbing areas.

The Public Lands Defense Fund launched in January 2017 with donations from Patagonia, The North Face, KEEN, GU and Arc’teryx. To date, $150,000 from this fund has been distributed to grassroots organizations working to oppose giving public lands to the states or to private interests; defend America’s bedrock conservation laws; and defend previous presidents’ National Monument designations.

Since 2007, Ruffwear has been an active member of The Conservation Alliance, paying annual dues based on revenue. Beyond its dues, the brand and its employees have supported The Conservation Alliance by performing land restoration work in local Backyard Collectives, raising funds through product sales at the Outdoor Retailer Show, sending staff to Washington, D.C. to voice the brands’ commitment to protecting wild places, and most recently, marching in the March for Public Lands in both Salt Lake City and Bend.
