Wings of Rescue Flies 400 Pets to New Homes
Wings of Rescue, a 501(c)(3) organization of volunteer pilots committed to saving at-risk shelter dogs and cats, airlifted about 400 pets from Southern California animal shelters on July 8 and 9 to shelters and rescues in New Jersey, Massachusetts and Washington. More than 200 of those dogs and cats were sponsored by Kriser’s Natural Pet, a multiunit pet retailer specializing in natural pet food, supplies and grooming, which partnered with its employees and customers to raise more than $20,000 in May for the rescue.
With nearly 3 million animals euthanized annually in municipal shelters nationwide, Wings of Rescue aims to make a tangible difference by flying at-risk, homeless, adoptable pets to places where there is demand for these companion animals.
Aboard the July weekend’s flights was the 20,000th pet flown to safety since Wings of Rescue’s inception. Transporting one planeload of pets requires approximately $10,000 in donations, the organization stated.
Additionally, San Diego-based The Honest Kitchen will send these pets home with a voucher for a free box of natural pet food.
