Zoomark Sees Record Foreign Attendance

Italy’s contribution to the pet-trade-show circuit—Zoomark International—saw a record 2015 attendance this year by foreign buyers from outside Italy.

In fact, 30 percent, or 6,773, of the 22,299 buyers at the four-day May 2015 show in Bologna, Italy, came from 85 countries other than Italy.

“This year’s event … boosted networking opportunities for trade professionals from all over the world,” commented Duccio Campagnoli, president of BolognaFiere, an Italian trade show organizer, which co-organized the show along with Expo Milano 2015, the organizing group of 2015 Universal Exposition, a world’s fair taking place in Milan and running through Oct. 31.

Italian buyers were well represented at Zoomark at 15,526, and why not, considering the Italian dog and cat food segment alone grew by 2.4 percent in 2014, according to a report by Assalco-Zoomark (Assalco is the Italian Association of Pet Food and Petcare Industries), with 544,000 tons of food worth more than $2 billion USD sold.

There were 615 exhibiting companies at Zoomark 2015 of which 65 percent, or 35, were from outside Italy.

Italy fielded 221 exhibitors with the U.S. at second with 80 exhibiting companies.

Among foreign buyers this year, Zoomark International hosted visitors from Kazakhstan, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Rwanda, Qatar and French Polynesia for the first time.

Zoomark International is scheduled to return May 2017.
