PetSmart to Host Adoption Weekend and Shelter Food Drives

Published:

PetSmart is inviting the public to drop by any of its more than 1,400 retail pet stores to celebrate Happy Gotcha Day—part of the Phoenix retailer’s National Adoption Weekend, Sept. 11, 12 and 13.

The goal for the three-day adoption push is to secure new homes for some 15,000 animals from shelters in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, while giving new pet adopters a day to remember.

“For adopted pets, confirming a birthday is tough, so we wanted to call out to these new pet parents that special day—‘Gothca Day’’—to celebrate the moment they brought home their newest family member,” said Eran Cohen, executive vice president of customer experience, PetSmart Inc.

Anyone who adopts a pet during the National Adoption Weekend can share the news of their and their pet’s personal Gotcha Day by posting a photo of the new four-legged family member using #gotchaday and tag @PetSmart on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Those who adopt a pet will receive a free PetSmart Adoption Starter Kit, chock full of coupons valued at more than $400 for everything from one-time veterinary services to a free bag of dog or cat food to leashes, beds, bowls and other accessories.

In addition, PetSmart is hosting pet food drives at all of its locations Sept. 7 to 13 on behalf of its animal shelter partners.

Customers can purchase food and other supplies in local stores and drop the items into a bin at their local PetSmart to be donated to animal shelters and rescues in their area.
