Pet specialty retailer Petco introduced today a new line of earth-conscious pet products available exclusively in Petco stores and online.
The Planet Petco line includes pet accessories, toys, furniture and care products made from recycled materials and/or natural, renewable materials. For example, the new Planet Petco dog collar is made from recycled plastic bottles and recycled polyester, the rope dog toys use vegetable dyes and the dog crate is constructed with sustainable Hevea wood. In addition to the products themselves, Petco’s suppliers are encouraged to incorporate sustainable practices in their operations.
The Planet Petco line currently includes products for dogs, cats, small mammals, birds and fish. It also includes special seasonal bedding and accessories collections, beginning first with this spring’s Moroccan collection. The San Diego-based company expects to continue to grow the line.

One percent of Planet Petco sales will go to environmental nonprofits that participate in the “1% for the Planet” program. The program invites companies to donate 1 percent of their revenues to a worldwide network of environmental organizations, such as the California Center for Sustainable Energy in the US, Centennial Parklands Foundation in Australia, and Earth Focus Foundation in Switzerland. Each of the organizations in the network are vetted and approved by 1% for the Planet.
Planet Petco products are available in all 1,500 Petco stores and 29 Unleashed by Petco stores in the United States, as well as on Petco.com.<HOME>
