Petsafe’s “Bark for Your Park” contest invites communities to vie for a chance to win $100,000 to build a dog park.
Petsafe, a brand of dog behavior products and accessories made by Radio System Corps. of Knoxville, Tenn., is offering U.S. towns the chance to win $100,000 for a dog park.

The Bark for Your Park contest, which launched today, invites the public to nominate their community for a chance to receive $100,000 to put toward a Petsafe dog park.

“In our hometown of Knoxville, Tenn., we’ve worked with the community to build several dogs parks, and we’ve seen firsthand the positive impact they’ve had,” said Petsafe president and CEO Randy Boyd. “Dog parks not only offer pet parents spots for outdoor pet recreation and expand green park space, they also strengthen the sense of community among local pet owners. We’re thrilled to launch ‘Bark for Your Park’ to help another city build a community dog park.”

Residents have until Wednesday, June 1, 2011, to visit the contest website to nominate their town and describe how the community would benefit from the dog park. Petsafe encourages residents to team up with local officials, animal shelters and welfare groups, animal professionals and pet owners to show a united front.

“We anticipate that this contest will inspire many animal lovers and community leaders to work together to achieve this goal for their city,” Boyd said. “We want to hear everyone ‘bark’ for their park.”

Petsafe will select 15 finalists from the pool of nominees. The public will be able to vote for their favorite finalist later this summer. The finalist with the most votes will be named the winner.
