Nearly 40 percent of dogs and cats suffered some form of gastrointestinal problems in 2011, according to a survey of pet owners performed by Nestlé Purina Petcare.
In 2011, the most commonly-reported GI issues reported by cat and dog owners were vomiting and diarrhea. Inappetence is the GI issue most likely to prompt cat and dog owners to bring their pets to the veterinarian.
A majority of owners did not consult veterinarians about their pets’ GI conditions, and about one-fifth took no action to resolve issues. However, about 40 percent of dog owners and more than 50 percent of cat owners expressed interest in purchasing veterinary medications, food or supplements to address their pet’s GI condition. <HOME>
