Mars Reported to Expand Pet Treat Production in S.C.

Mars Petcare plans to boost production of pet treats at its Columbia, S.C., location by $128 million during the next five years, The State newspaper of South Carolina reported.

The plan will add 277 new jobs and more the triple the plant’s payroll, according to the news report.

The plans call for adding 290,000 square feet to the plant, where about 250 of the new jobs will be. The remaining jobs will be at a regional distribution center slated to open at an undetermined site, the newspaper reported.

Mars Petcare North America’s Luc Mongeau told the publication the expansion is a partnership between the company and state and local officials, and the company will receive $1.5 million in state aid and property tax breaks. <HOME>
