Sally Liddick
Barkleigh founder Sally Liddick died last weekend.

Sally Liddick, founder of Barkleigh Productions Inc. in Mechanicsburg, Pa., died on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at age 65. She was born Oct. 15, 1946. Liddick retired from Barkleigh in December 2010.

The daughter of a groomer, Liddick was a professional pet groomer for 15 years. She founded Barkleigh based on her belief in the importance of “well trained and better informed pet professionals,” the company reported.

Barkleigh, which began with a quarterly newsletter called GroomOgram, grew to publish several pet services magazines, including Groomer to Groomer and Off Lead & Animal Behavior.

The company also operates several trade shows for pet services providers, including Groom Expo, Groom & Kennel Expo and PetQuest.

The company named its Barkleigh Honors Lifetime Achievement Award after Liddick. She also received four Cardinal Crystal Achievement Awards for journalist of the year and the Dog Writer’s Association of America’s Grooming Journalist Award.

She also wrote Taking a Different Path, a memoir of her life in the grooming industry.

I just found out of Sally's passing, truly a great loss for the grooming industry. I have always remembered her kindness towards me and her help and advice she gave to groomers.

Article was too short. The grooming industry just lost a "Giant!" Sally was not only a great innovator, she improved every technique and business venture she tackled. She added class and substance to a field that was initially held in low regard by the pet industry. She will be missed! Sam Kohl, Aaronco Pet Products
