Diamond Halts Pet Food Production at S.C. Plant

Posted: April 13, 2012, 7:15 p.m. EDT

Diamond Pet Foods of Meta, Mo., suspended all production at its Gaston, S.C., plant, following a dog food recall last week due to salmonella concerns, the company reported today.

Diamond ceased production at the plant on April 8, 2012, two days after it recalled several lots of Diamond Naturals Lamb & Rice dry dog food due to potential contamination with salmonella. No other products are at risk of being contaminated, according to the company.

Brands manufactured at the Gaston facility include:

  • Diamond
  • Taste of the Wild
  • Premium Edge
  • Diamond ceased pet food production at its South Carolina plant.
    Professional
  • Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
  • Country Value

The company did not provide a specific timeframe on when it would resume production, but said it will not do so until the Gaston plant meets the “highest possible standards of quality.”

This company demonstrates what a professional pet food manufacturer should be. I'm a Diamond fan (all of their brands) and will continue to feed and recommend their pet food.

Great response by a great company, I have been feeding Diamond for over 18 years and this is the very reason why, they produce a great quality food at a reasonable price and care about their customers and the animals welfare! Will not stop me from continuing to use Diamond. At least they were not like another name brand company a few months back who had a silent recall!

Eukanuba still is the best food. They are the only company that can clinically prove what a dog needs in their diet. They have higher quality standards than any other manufacturer. The trendy diets like taste of the wild and grain free have no studies to back their claims. Studies in progress are starting to show that grain free diets when fed long term negatively affect the balance of good and bad bacteria in a dogs digestive tract, this weakens a dogs immune system. Dogs are opportunistic carnivores, they eat meat when they need it, but they also need carbs from grains.
