H.H. Backer Associates Inc. of Chicago announced today the postponement of its Pet Industry Spring Trade Show, which was scheduled for April 10 to 12, 2013, in Atlantic City, N.J. The rescheduled show will be moved to a biennial format and next occur April 9 to 11, 2014, in Atlantic City.
Colette Fairchild, the show’s director, cited the flailing economy and a lack of support from key pet industry distributors and manufacturers as the reasons for the cancellation of the 2013 spring trade show.
“The economy continues to be a key factor in the decision-making process for our exhibitors to determine which shows and open houses to attend in 2013,” she said. “Many are taking a more conservative stance on show attendance until they see their companies’ overall sales improve. We’re confident, however, that by holding the show every two years, we can produce a successful, viable event for both buyers and exhibitors.”
The Atlantic City Convention Center in Atlantic City, N.J., hosted Backer's 2012 Pet Industry Spring Trade Show, but the venue will have to wait until 2014 for the show’s return. |
This new format comes on the heels of major changes implemented in 2011. That year, the spring trade show
returned to Atlantic City after spending several years in Baltimore, Md., and switched to a weekday-only format. It also saw the
return of distributor Royal Pet Supplies.
H.H. Backer’s signature Pet Industry Christmas Trade Show will continue as an annual event, Fairchild noted.
As previously announced, H.H. Backer is unveiling several new buyer incentives and promotions designed to draw top buyers and increase on-site show orders at the upcoming Pet Industry Christmas Trade Show, Oct. 12 to 14, 2012, in Chicago.
The Christmas show will be moved to the month of September starting in 2013. Next year’s Christmas show will take place Sept. 20 to 22, 2013.
