The Clorox Co., the Oakland, Calif.-based manufacturer of Fresh Step cat litter, is asking filmmakers to produce an original, scripted cat-themed video and possibly earn a trip to the Catdance Film Festival.
A panel of judges will review the entries and send five finalists to Park City, Utah, for an official screening Jan. 19, 2013.
The Catdance Film Festival will coincide with the annual Sundance Film Festival, which will take place Jan. 17 to 27 in Park City.
“We are going to give cat videos the stage they deserve by placing them side by side with the best in independent, noncat films,” said Dana Ginsburg, brand manager for Fresh Step litter.

Fresh Step launched the campaign today by screening three original shorts at www.Freshstep.com, including the spy spoof “The Trials and Tribulations of Patrick Chesterfield II,” the modern-day romance “A Cat in Love,” and a look at the cleverness of cats in “Covetous Cat.”
Fresh Step will add a new, original movie on the site each week through the end of the year. All entries must be less than four minutes long.
After the selected films are screened in Park City, fans will choose their favorite. The original cat short that earns the most votes from Jan. 20 to Feb. 28, 2013, will be named the Viewer’s Choice and the winning filmmaker will receive $10,000.<HOME>
