Grooming tools manufacturer Andis Co. of Sturtevant, Wis., is accepting nominees for the first Andis Hearts & Paws Award.
The award aims to honor a groomer "who is truly in it for the love," said Karen Formico, vice president of marketing at Andis.
“As a company of pet lovers, Andis understands that many groomers do what they do because it’s a calling they can’t ignore,” Formico said Tuesday. "Developing this special award is our way of honoring groomers...who demonstrate compassion toward animals and expand the world of animal lovers through their actions.”
Groomers are permitted to nominate themselves for the Andis Hearts & Paws Award.

Nominations may be made on Andis'
Facebook page through Jan. 18, 2013.
The grand-prize winner will receive a $1,000 Visa gift card and a basket of Andis grooming tools. First- and second-place winners will get $250 and $100 gift cards, respectively, along with Andis tools.
For each eligible entry made through Jan. 18,
Andis will donate $10 to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, with a maximum contribution of $10,000.
Anyone nominating a groomer is asked to submit an essay of up to 500 words and a photo of the person. The essay should convey the nominee’s love for grooming and show how they exhibit kindness and compassion toward animals, Andis reported.
A panel of judges will select three finalists. Facebook users who “like” Andis on the company's Small Animal Facebook page may vote for the winner from Jan. 21 to Feb. 17, 2013.
