Planet Dog of Westbrook, Maine, announced partnerships today with two distributors as part of a strategy to improve the circulation of the company’s dog products on the West Coast and in Mountain and Southeast states.
The manufacturer unveiled what it called a “hybrid sales model” involving distributors Animal Supply Co. of Federal Way, Wash., and Holistic Pet Source of Nashville, Tenn.
“This unique sales model allows us to sell to the entire country and continue the growth of our brand and socially responsible mission, while keeping the costs of our sales force in line with our current sales,” says Stephanie Volo, Planet Dog’s president.
The sale of Orbee-Tuff Bulbs and other Planet Dog products has enabled the company's foundation to give away more than $875,000 in cash grants and in-kind product donations since 2006.
Animal Supply, which distributes to 14 Western states, was chosen because of its inventory controls, timely and accurate fulfillment measures, and high pick accuracy level, Volo said.
Holistic services independent retailers, groomers and veterinarians in the Southeast.
“Holistic Pet Source’s environmental and educational mission is a great fit for our eco-friendly brand,” Volo said.
Planet Dog also reported new territories for sales account executives Linda McKinley and Stephanie Hulse. McKinley will oversee a region extending from Connecticut to North Dakota while Hulse will manage an area stretching from Southern California to Florida.
Through its foundation, Planet Dog donates 2 percent of all purchases to canine service programs nationwide.
“In this competitive and ever-changing marketplace, brands need to think creatively and be open to trying new strategies to get their product on more store shelves,” Volo said. “The more Planet Dog products that are sold, the more our socially responsible company can give back through the Planet Dog Foundation
