Best Friends Pet Care Inc., a chain of boarding centers, is accepting pet supplies and cash donations through Dec. 31 as part of its 12th annual Angel Tree campaign.
The Norwalk, Conn., company, which operates 42 pet hotels in 18 states, is asking clients and other pet lovers to assist more than 50 animal shelters nationwide.
Visitors may select a card ornament from the Angel Tree in each center’s lobby. Each card shows a local shelter cat or dog and that animal’s “wish list.”
“Hurricane Sandy has put an even bigger burden on shelters–not just along the East Coast, but across the country–because so many lost and abandoned pets need help,” said Renee Coughlin, vice president of marketing for Best Friends Pet Care.

Shelters ranging from Morris Animals Refuge in Philadelphia to Pawfest Match Rescue in Holly Springs, N.C., are benefiting from the Angel Tree campaign this year.

Donors also may buy supplies such as pet toys directly from Best Friends or drop off items, including blankets. Best Friends will supplement donations with food and other supplies.
“Holiday season can be challenging for local shelters in the best years,” Coughlin noted.
The Angel Tree program has provided food, toys and care products valued in the hundreds of thousands of dollars to more than 100 animal
shelters and rescues since 2000.
