Dogs, Owners Chow Down at Record-setting Event

Posted: July 2, 2013, 12:30 p.m. EDT

Some 224 people and 120 dogs set a record for what is being called the largest dog-friendly communal dining event in history.

Sponsored by Chef Michael’s dog food, the meal took place Saturday at the second annual PetFest in Bridgehampton, N.Y.

Celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito teamed up with Chef Michael’s to plan the event.

"I partnered with Chef Michael’s to help set this extraordinary record because as a dog lover and owner I believe we should treat our beloved pets as special as they treat us,” DiSpirito said.

A record is set as 224 people and 120 dogs gather for a meal Saturday in Bridgehampton, N.Y.
Chef Michael’s brand representative Sarah BonDurant echoed DiSpirito.

The world record, she said, "brings dedicated dog owners and their dogs closer together.”

"We understand that mealtime is more than just a time of day,” BonDurant said. "It’s a moment worth sharing.”

Chef Michael’s, a brand of St. Louis-based Nestlé Purina PetCare Co., also set a mark for the longest line of dogs at a food truck. Starting in 2012, the Chef Michael's Food Truck for Dogs tour has served samples to dogs at events nationwide.

Both records were verified by, a Las Vegas website that allows people to invent world records, document them on video and post the evidence online.
