If there’s a little more baying at the moon in Texarkana, it may have something to do with the Texas city being named the 2013 grand-prize winner in the PetSafe Bark for Your Park contest.
Texarkana’s sister city, Texarkana, Ark., captured the top prize last year. Each now will have a $100,000 off-leash dog park of their own courtesy of the PetSafe brand of pet behavior, containment and lifestyle products.
In its third year, the Bark for Your Park contest saw 1,130 cities nominated and more than 820,000 votes cast for the 15 finalist cities, parent company Radio Systems Corp. of Knoxville, Tenn., reported Thursday.

Just over 659,000 votes were cast last year.
Four runners-up each received $25,000 for their respective dog park projects. Conway, Ark., was named the top large city, Wheeling, W.Va., the top mid-size city and Mountain House, Calif., the top small city. Silver Cliff, Colo., with a population of 589, won the Bark From Your Heart category by garnering the highest ratio of votes to population.
"Whether to exercise, play or socialize, these future dog parks will bring people and pets together,” said Randy Boyd, president and CEO of Radio Systems. "That’s the magic of a dog park and the aim of the Bark for Your Park contest.”
PetSafe increased the prize money to $200,000 from $150,000 last year and the number of winners to five instead of three to help more cities build dog parks
