The 2013 SuperZoo trade show drew record numbers of attendees and exhibitors to Las Vegas, the World Pet Association reported this week.
The 191,524 square feet of floor space filled at Mandalay Bay Convention Center from July 23 to 25 also set a record.
"We work hard to add value to the show each year,” said Doug Poindexter, president of the Monrovia, Calif.-based WPA. "It’s so gratifying to see the pet industry respond with such enthusiasm.”
SuperZoo is a major business-building event bringing together pet product manufacturers, distributors and retailers.
Attendance rose by 9 percent from the 2012 show, when more than 12,000 pet industry professionals were registered. The precise number of attendees this year was not available.
The 982 exhibitors selling their products
and services represented a 12 percent increase over the 875 in place in 2012.
Overall, the attendance, exhibitor lineup and square footage rose for the fourth consecutive year.
One new feature to SuperZoo this year was the Concept Store
, a 2,400-square-foot retail environment stocked with the latest in displays and merchandise.
The next SuperZoo show is scheduled for July 22 to 24, 2014, at Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
SuperZoo's successful run was matched by two other leading pet industry shows: Global Pet Expo and Zoomark.
Global Pet Expo
, which took place in February in Orlando, Fla., reported record-breaking numbers of exhibitors, buyers, media members and booths.
, which occurs every other year in Bologna, Italy, saw attendance climb by 9 percent in May and a record 82 nations represented, among them Azerbaijan, Grenada, Uganda, Cambodia and New Caledonia.
