The Bissell Pet Foundation, affiliated and partly funded by Bissell Homecare Inc. of Grand Rapids, Mich., reveals that it has given more than $635,000 to 90 U.S. animal welfare groups this year.
Since the Bissell Pet Foundation was founded in Dec. 2011 by Cathy Bissell, director of corporate affairs for Bissell Homecare, it has contributed more than $1.1 million to animal shelters and rescues in 45 states and the District of Columbia.
Spay and neuter programs have received the largest amount of funding—$450,000.
The Bissell Pet Foundation reveals that it has given more than $635,000 to 90 U.S. animal welfare groups this year.
"With literally millions of homeless pets euthanized every year in the U.S., we focus on funding programs that will do the most to change this heartbreaking outcome,” explained Cathy Bissell.
Award decisions are determined by the BPF Grant Review Committee, which is made up of animal welfare champions, each of whom have dedicated years to animal welfare causes.
"It brings me and my team so much joy to know we are helping to save the lives of thousands of animals through these grant awards,” she added.
A big portion of the BPF’s funding comes from Bissell Homecare, which donates up to $250,000 annually from online sales of its products.
Customers have a say and can designate the animal welfare charity they want the proceeds from their purchases to go to through Bissell Partners for Pets, a program developed to assist animal welfare organizations with their fundraising.
Bissell consumers can participate in the Partners for Pets’ Hope for the Holidays Contest, where one P4P Facebook fan can designate a donation of $1,000 each day, through December 20, to the P4P member organization of their choice and win a Bissell product.
