Animal Planet to Debut Pet Travel Line Summer 2014

Posted: January 22, 2014, 1:15 p.m. EDT

They drool all over the seats, fidget constantly and negate the air conditioning because they have a Pavlovian need to stick their heads out the window—traveling with pets can be a challenge.

Discovery Communications wants to ease the burden of road tripping with pets by creating a new line of Animal Planet pet travel products.

The new line will be created in partnership with G Mason Group, a New York-based manufacturer of private label and branded pet products.
The move by the New York-based entertainment group sees the deal as a way to expand the presence of its Animal Planet brand within the pet segment.

Dog Travel Line
Traveling with pets can be a challenge.

The initial product launch—planned for next summer—includes car seat covers, car booster seats, kennel and crate mats with memory foam, orthopedic foam and tough chew fabrications.
Animal Planet branded pet travel products, such as soft-sided pet carriers, back seat barriers, back seat nets and anti-anxiety travel calming jackets, will be added to the line subsequently.

The new line will be available nationwide at a variety of retailers, including department stores, mid-tier and specialty chains, as well as warehouse membership club and independent specialty stores.
Items will retail from about $20 to $60.

A portion of the proceeds from each Animal Planet pet travel product purchase will benefit ROAR (Reach Out. Act. Respond), Animal Planet’s national campaign in making the world a better place for animals.
In 2013, ROAR surpassed the $1 million mark in total donations, including a matching campaign, consumer donations and proceeds from the sale of Animal Planet consumer products.

The new product line will expand Animal Planet’s pet programs in the United States and Canada.
