Petmate is a finalist for two Edison Awards, which honor the development and marketing of innovative products and services in all sectors of the business world.
The Arlington, Texas, manufacturer’s See & Extend pet carrier was nominated in the category of lifestyle consumer goods and its Spectrum plant is up for an Edison Green Award.
The Edison Awards, now in their 27th year, are named after acclaimed American inventor Thomas Edison. The 2014 winners will be handed out April 30 in San Francisco.
The See & Extend pet carrier features top and side access points.
The expandable See & Extend pet carrier is competing against the RockaRoo Infant Seat from 4moms and the Sea-Doo Spark watercraft from Bombardier Recreational Products.
"Petmate shares the Edison Awards’ commitment to innovation with a visionary, creative-yet-practical approach to pet products,” said Larry Baab, executive vice president of marketing and new product development for Petmate.
Petmate’s Mansfield, Texas, plant was nominated for its commitment to developing sustainable solutions and green business models.
The plant purchases and recycles more than 40 million pounds of post-industrial and pre-consumer plastic waste a year for use in Petmate
products. In addition, all internal scrap material, including bedding foam, is reused.
"Our Spectrum facility is one of many ways Petmate helps to preserve the environment through sustainable manufacturing,” Baab said.
Also nominated for the Edison Green Award are the InCycle Cup from MicroGreen Polymers Inc. and aluminum manufacturer Novelis Inc.
Awards are overseen by Edison Universe, a nonprofit organization based in Palos Park, Ill. The 2014 awards are sponsored by Ipsos, a global marketing research company with North American headquarters in New York.
