Havahart Wireless, maker of wireless dog fencing and training devices, launched a scholarship program for current college students who have an affinity for animals.
"At Havahart Wireless, we’re committed to the safety and welfare of our four-legged friends,” said Malory Spisak, category development associate for the Lititz, Pa.-based company. "We see this scholarship as a way to encourage this commitment and enthusiasm for the well-being of animals.”
To enter, college students, including incoming freshman, who are enrolled at an accredited college or university need only submit one 500-word essay on one of three topics:
· role of pets in today’s society
· therapeutic value of animals
· new laws that could benefit animal welfare in the U.S.
Qualifying essays must be submitted no later than Aug. 11, 2014, with a winner announced on Aug. 18.
The winner receives $500–in time for the fall semester–and his or her essay will be published online as part of the Havahart Wireless Learning Center, a clearinghouse for dog breed profiles, dog-related articles, dog containment research and product reviews.
