Jakks Pets to Create Marley & Me Product Line
The American Kennel Club and Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising have agreed to make a co-branded pet product line for the upcoming movie Marley & Me, an adaptation of John Grogan’s New York Times bestselling memoir about his yellow Labrador retriever.
Jakks Pets will create the puppy line, adult line and two gift sets, all of which will be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores beginning in November.
The puppy line will include a bathrobe, puppy sweater, teether rings and a yellow duck and white teddy bear toy. The adult line will include a fleece jacket, dog bed and toy honking mallard, hedgehog, Canada goose, hare and squirrel.
The AKC and Twentieth Century Fox have collaborated previously on films, such as 2007’s Firehouse Dog, in order to promote responsible dog ownership messages.
“This heartwarming story about the unconditional love and devotion between a dog and his owner lends itself perfectly to AKC’s mission as an advocate for responsible dog ownership,” said Gail Miller, director of marketing for AKC. “We are thrilled to share in the positive message Marley & Me sends about the joys of dog ownership and to offer a new line of co-branded products that will enhance the experience of owning a dog.”
The movie is set to open Christmas day.
