Splash and Dash for Dogs Now Available for Licensing
Dan Barton, owner of dog grooming salon Hollywood Premier Pets in Palm Desert, Calif., has licensed his shop’s monthly dog bathing service, Splash and Dash for Dogs. The licensing program is targeted at grooming business owners or pet specialty retailers that already offer bathing services.

Barton created the service to give pet owners a convenient way to keep their pooches fresh and clean between grooming appointments. For a flat monthly fee, pet owners bring in their dogs as often as needed for a shampoo and conditioning, hand blow-dry and brush out.
Similar to a gym business model (Barton was previously a CFO for World Gym, a fitness club franchise company), Splash and Dash for Dogs is designed to offer business owners a steady cash flow through membership dues.
“This fundamentally will change the way you do business going forward, because there’s nothing out there that currently produces a guaranteed revenue stream every month, month after month, “Barton said.
The program also helps generate retail revenue since the shop has an influx of customers coming in for the bathing service, he added.
Barton instituted the service in his shop in December, 2008. He said he currently has just over 500 dogs enrolled in the program and collects $22,000 every month in membership dues. Customers remain enrolled in the program until they cancel their membership, and they may cancel any month.
Licensees receive a protected territory, marketing support, and training support. Splash and Dash for Dogs, which is based in Orlando, Fla., and has offices in California and Alabama, handles the monthly billing for licensees, Barton said.
In the licensing program’s first three weeks on the market, Splash and Dash signed nine licensees. Barton aims to sign 100 licensees by the end of 2010.
