How/why company was founded: In 1985, I started Horsewash as an Equestrian Laundry Service. Washing hundreds, then thousands, of blankets, I saw the advantages and disadvantages of different styles and brands. I decided to market my own blankets. With my first priority being comfort and fit for the horse and my second the laundering.
|The Clipper Dog Coat|
Made from the company’s distinctive, Heavyweight Thinsulate thermal insulation with ripstop nylon lining, Dogwarm’s Clipper Coat features water-repellent outer fabric of 420 denier nylon, Scotchlite reflective piping and convenient Velcro closures, the manufacturer reports.
The coats are designed to provide a comfortable fit and are machine washable, line dry. Recommended for all dogs, all Dogswarm coats are constructed with quality, comfort, durability and style, the company adds.
Before getting into horses, I had been an avid skier. I remembered how warm and lightweight Thinsulate Thermal Insulation was for skiers in the frigid winter temperatures of the New England mountains. Hence, Horsewarm was born. By using different weights of Thinsulate and high-tech fabrics, combined with classic designs and new innovations, I developed a lightweight breathable warm collection of original horse clothing.
I developed Dogwarm, following the same designs and technology, adapting the equestrian-style coats for dogs of all breeds. These dog coats offer great protection from cold or harsh weather, and the collection also includes hunting coats and specialty coats for working dogs.
Company motto/mission: Our mission is to produce a high-quality product MADE IN THE USA!
Company culture (What makes you special? company pets, foundation support, community work, etc.): Our commitment to quality and our pride in making a “Made in USA” product. Our coats reflect our great love for animals. I have two dogs, and most of my employees have their own canine companions. We strive to make our coats the best they can be for the comfort of all dogs and horses. And last, we offer a range of sizes that covers all breeds from XXS to XXL, with custom measuring for every coat.
Greatest opportunity: Our greatest opportunity was working with special assignments: We made custom coats for the Mount Washington Sled Dog Team. And we also were delighted to make coats for winners at the prestigious Westminster Dog Show.
Biggest challenge: Our biggest challenge has been to remain competitive with overseas products. We also must keep abreast of the latest fabric technology.
Company product categories (cat, dog, bird, fish, etc.): An extensive collection of dog coats, horse blankets, rider outerwear and stable related items.
Key to company’s success: • Quality product proudly made in USA • Built up excellent clientele • Encourage word-of-mouth referrals
Dogwarm’s custom logos are colorful, and add a touch of elegance to any of its coats, the company reports. Dogswarm offers block and script lettering styles for embroidery work, silk screen and patches, and will work with a customer’s embroiderer or its own.
Company product lines: Our horse clothing and dog coat collections feature: different weights for different climates and purposes; variety of functions (hunting coats, specialty coats, custom logos, etc.), and a dedication to comfort and safety in our designs.
Future product plans: We would like to include accessories such as leashes, collars, dog beds, and other dog-related items into our lines.
Future business plans (expansion, relocation, etc.): We plan to keep growing, both in our line of products and in the number of our customers.
We also have redesigned and expanded our website and have created direct mail campaigns (catalog, postcards, advertising, etc.) for additional promotions of our products. <HOME>
