1.8 Million Ways to Pamper a Pooch

As if the record price for a dog collar of $180,000 in 2006 wasn’t extravagant enough, enter the world’s current most expensive luxury canine accessory at $1.8 million.

The 18-karat white gold and platinum piece, offered by I Love Dogs Diamonds, features more than 1,600 hand-set diamonds totaling 54 Karats. The central diamond, at 7 karats, puts the “Amour Amour” over the top.

The leash itself, made of crocodile leather, illustrates the company’s nothing-but-the best philosophy and proves the collar is actually made to wear by the world’s luckiest pooch.

Other diamond encrusted creations, though less opulent, still ‘fetch’ from $280,000 to $480,000. Turquoise and silver creations, for the budget minded luxe consumer are offered at $2,000 to $4,000.

The company, which opened last October and recently began actively marketing their extravagant creations, reports significant interest from several buyers in the one-of-a kind diamond pieces it offers. Each collar is custom made to fit each dog perfectly by the company’s custom jewelers.

Though it hopes to capitalize on tapping into a growing and profitable trend, it’s not just about the money. I Love Dogs Diamonds, recently moved to donate a portion of the purchase of its Amour Amour creation directly to a non-profit of the buyer’s choice.

As evidence of a growing trend toward high-end collar and leads, diamonds and gold are commanding the attention of consumers and retailers alike – albeit for pure shock value. But the fact remains that there are buyers on the market for super-luxury, yet utilitarian, pet products.

Avoid the high cost of carrying jewels in your store by sourcing products made from composite materials. Manufactured gemstones and metal alloys have been used for centuries to supply the costume jewelry market. Pet products that include these affordable materials appeal to desire for budget bling.  <HOME>
