If a customer is willing to spend as much building his dog’s house as he spent building his own, there’s a company who’s willing to help.
Doggy Dream Homes, a division of Sullivan Construction in Ashland, Mo., is willing to custom design even a scaled-down version of a person’s home for Fido. Doggy Dream Homes founder David Sullivan has been building luxury homes for people for more than 16 years. Upon request, Sullivan started building them for his clients’ pampered pets, too.
These dog homes, and Sullivan does call them homes, come standard with central heating and air conditioning.
With people-size doors that allow their owners to stop by for a visit, Doggy Dream Homes feature multiple rooms, two stories, vaulted ceilings, skylights, custom beds, puppy toy chests and optional radiant flooring heat.
Electricity for porch and interior lights adds the finishing touches to Sullivan’s palatial designs that like look more like vacation homes at the lake or guest cottages than digs for your dog.
A backyard deck with recessed dog-bone shaped swimming pool crowns one of the model homes built by the company who offers passersby the opportunity to have their dog’s photo taken in one of its canine mansions. The company will send a commemorative photo of the pet in the lap of luxury, in return for the use of the photo on its website.
Whether for the super rich or the super infatuated pet owner, Doggy Dream Homes represents a meteoric rise in the status of the American pet from work horse to companion to valued family member. Companies like this hint at the limitless possibility of the luxury, boutique market. <HOME>
