Outdoor pottery already catches the attention of backyard living consumers with its rich colors and varied forms. Make these products irresistible - and mark them up - by turning them into fountains and you’ll watch them fly off the shelves.

With an all purpose accessory pump and a few feet of flexible tubing any piece of pottery you stock can be turned into a stunning pondless feature for the garden. This popular home and garden trend offers the perfect solution to busy households in need of serene water features. Pondless features provide all the benefits of water features with none of the maintenance hassle.

Display Setup

  • Select the site for your water feature and dig a hole with a diameter twice the diameter of the piece of pottery you’ve chosen and half as deep as the pot is tall.
    .
  • Line the hole with a heavy gauge plastic film or piece of flexible rubber pond liner.
    .
  • Place the pump in the center of the hole with a piece of flexible tubing attached to the water outlet port. Cover the whole assembly with an inverted water lily pot with a hole cut to accommodate the tubing. This will keep rocks and dirt out of the pumps moving parts.
    .
  • Then, simply fill the hole with pebbles or stones, depending on the look you’d like to achieve.
    .
  • Thread the flexible tubing up through the bottom of the pot.
    .
  • Fill the pot and underground basin with clean water; plug in the pump and watch pottery sales increase.

Repeat the above process with any piece of resin statuary, for a one-of-a-kind garden spitter. Just use a hardened drill bit or paddle bit to drill a hole large enough to accommodate the tubing you plan to stock. Depending on how the piece is molded, you may have to drill a hole in the bottom first, then wherever the water will be spitting from. Thread flexible tubing from the pump up through the piece and you’ve invested almost nothing in your stock – with the potential for a substantial markup.

Concrete or hollow metal statuary can also be converted into spitter material, with more of an investment. Special drill bits may be required to outfit these pieces, which have the potential to crack under the pressure of conversion to spitters. The investment required to convert your stock into spitter products may not be cost effective. <HOME>
