Coming to You from Across the Pond

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Alderton’s World Update monthly news column is now the weekly blog Across the Pond on PetProductNews.com. Every week, David will offer readers news, views and/or insights on pet industry-related subjects of interest to the United Kingdom and occasionally beyond to the Continent.

You’ve seen his byline in Pet Product News International for years. However, do you really know who David Alderton is? (That was a rhetorical question as we’re going to tell you anyway.) David is a U.K.-based writer and broadcaster who specializes in all things pet-related. Growing up in a home surrounded by pets of all types, he originally trained to be a veterinarian at Cambridge University until an allergic dermatitis forced a change of career at the end of his course--leading him into the field of writing. His books have currently sold more than 6.5 million copies worldwide and are available in 30 languages. David has received awards from both the Cats Writers’ Association of America and the Dog Writers’ Association of America, which honored his work with a Maxwell Medallion.

David also contributes to a wide variety of trade and consumer publications, as well as editing a herp magazine in the U.K. He has chaired the National Council for Aviculture, the umbrella organization for bird-keeping clubs and associations over there, and is currently a member of the Kennel Club. David has been involved in training programs for those working in the U.K. pet trade, and has spoken at a wide variety of seminars held by trade bodies such as the Ornamental Aquatic Trade Association (OATA). In addition, he is a consultant to PIJAC.
