Using Facebook for Business

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most everyone you know probably has been on Facebook today. If your business doesn’t have a presence on the site, it should. I am amused by the direct mail salespeople that stop by my shop each and every month trying to sell me direct mail campaigns costing thousands of dollars when, in a matter of minutes at no cost at all, I can post something on Facebook that goes out to more than 1,375 of my customers. Need to push a particular product? Offering a promotion on an otherwise slow sales day? Promoting an upcoming event? You can do all of these things and more on Facebook making it a very powerful and cost-effective tool to stay in touch with your customer base.

One particularly successful Facebook promotion that I do is called “Free Treat Tuesdays”. Almost every Tuesday, I send out a message to all my Facebook fans with a special offer. One week I may offer a buy a half pound of bulk biscuits, get a half pound free. Another week, free doggie beer samples to all dogs that come into the shop. My Facebook fans really look forward to these Tuesday promotions.

While I may not always see a noticeable increase in sales on these special Tuesdays over other days of the week, the customer loyalty that is developing is priceless. That is what keeps people coming back rather than shopping the national chains.

So, go establish a Facebook presence for your business and shout from the rooftops you are on Facebook by linking Facebook to your web page, putting a Facebook icon on all your ads, and inviting customers to become Facebook fans on your cash register receipt.

Watch your customer base grow…and hook ’em for life.
